| From May 13, 2009 things i must buy when/if i get a job: 1) new phone 2) surfboard 3) owe a bunch of people food 4) get cavities cleaned out 5) newer and (maybe) nicer clothes 6) snowboarding jacket and/maybe boots and/maybe pants 7) GPS 8) music 9) roomba
as you can see, i have already gotten a lot of the things that were on my list. (most of them before i got a job). i dont really need the snowboarding stuff at all. so all that is left is new clothes and a roomba!
anyway, there is something very important that i should have added to the list a couple of weeks ago. i hope ya'll read this one. so a couple weeks ago i attended the david crowder concert, "fresh 2009." and at this concert was a very special organization called Compassion International. They are one of those groups that asks you to sponsor a kid in Africa for like 30 bucks a month. But what was really crazy was that they brought a special guest speaker. He was this guy straight up from Africa, and he explained to us how he grew up in the slums digging through trash to survive because his parents died as a child. He was pretty much screwed until one day he found out there was a group called Compassion International coming to his town sponsoring children. He eventually got sponsored by this 15 year old girl from America, and he was able to eat food everyday and go back to school. Then, through God's grace he accepted Christ at a Compassion International sponsored VBS or something like that. Now he is a pastor in Africa, and he also goes around speaking for Compassion International.
So at fresh2009 they were handing out these cards with children's faces on them, offering us a chance to sponsor a child and save a life. Obviously, we were all heart wrenched as we sat there and listened to this guy's amazing testimony. But unfortunately, i had no income and i didnt want to sponsor a kid when i had no money to do so. So I vowed, if i ever got a job, i would go sponsor a kid through Compassion International. And last week, i did. Niyigena Innocent from Rwanda, is now going to be receiving food and an education!
Francis Chan says that sometimes in America, we get caught up in our "standard of living," while in other countries people are caught up in "living." We live our comfortable lives worried about our standard of living, while kids in Africa are worried about making it through the night. How crazy is that? I don't make a lot of money right now. I'm pretty much working for dirt. But whats more important? My standard of living, or kids living?
So anyway, the reason I think Compassion International is a good organization to go through is because first, they are a Christian organization and their ultimate goal is to save lives, but also to save souls. and second, the guy at the booth assured me that 80% of the money they receive goes directly to the children, and that seems like a pretty good percent to me. So finally, I implore you reader- go sponsor a kid through compassion. Standard of living or living? think about it...

| God loves me! After narrowly escaping death a couple months ago in a crazy car accident, I narrowly escaped death once again tonight. So the car accident: me and 3 other passengers were on our way to church. we started in the 2nd to left lane on the 101 and ended up banging into the right side wall after doing a 180 spin. So we swerved through 4 lanes while doing a 180 and running sideways into the wall. I was literally watching the wall approaching for a good lane and half thinking "I am gonna get screwed UPPPP." Anyway, the front of my car was completely totaled, the back of my car was even more totaled, but the side panels where Stacy and I were sitting were completely untouched. Me and my 3 passengers got out of the car completely unharmed. Amazing. So on to today. First let me preface this by saying I would consider myself pretty injury prone when playing sports. I don't get hurt that often, but when I do get injured I get it baddd. So anyway, a few friends and I were playing basketball at wooden and it was a 1 on 1 fast break and I was on defense. I was coming from the left of the basket and the offensive player was running from the right. He stops right under the basket and pump fakes, and I am still running towards him and I fall for the pump fake so I jump so I can try to block the shot. However, he bends over and I end up jumping almost over/on top of him and then he straightens back up. This sends me into a full on somersault in the air. So at this point I'm doing a 360 in the air and I'm thinking to myself "I am going to get screwed UPPPPP!" So after flipping for what seems like an eternity, I ended up landing almost on my feet. I landed on my calf/ankle area and I was able to brace myself with my left arm, and I got lifted to my feet immediately by the momentum. Everybody I was playing with is screaming and asking if I'm okay. I seriously could have broken my neck or leg or arm, but once again I am completely unharmed. Amazing I say. So after the car accident, my friends I thought to ourselves: God has great plans for our lives! He saved us from death for something awesome! And after today's incident, once again I am left thinking: God has a great plan for me! He saved me from a horrible paralyzing injury for something awesome! I must stop cheating death, its not that fun, its scarier than expected.
